DOWN LOAD THE GINGERSRUS DATABASE FOR YOUR PDA
FREE - For my ginger-loving friends on the go, I have created from my database some useful files that can be downloaded and used on your Palm, Sony Clié, or other handheld devices using the Palm OS or Pocket PC. ( I have not tested the files in Pocket PC format.) You are free to download these files and use them for personal use. Only thing I ask is that you respect my copyright and not duplicate or publish these files without my permission. The files are in Mobile DB format and should also work on other handheld systems that have the appropriate programs loaded to run a .pdb database. If you don't have the right software or if you want more information about Mobile DB, go to their website at where you will find download information and other free databases you can run on their software.
After you download one of the files below, you should save it to your hard drive and then install it on your handheld following the operating instructions that came with your handheld device. Once it is loaded on your handheld device you will be able open the file, scroll, filter, search, and so forth. The data in these files is a mirror of data that is in the GingersRus database. If you find data that you believe is incorrect, please let me know and I will make the corrections and revise the files for everyone to use. This database contains 2884 records of ginger species and cultivars (including both Zingiberaceae and Costaceae) along with the following fields:
Cultivated? : A yes indicates I have seen this plant offered for sale somewhere.
Fragrant? : Indicates whether the flowers or foliage is fragrant.
Height : Gives the plant's height in feet or inches.
Colors : Gives the predominent colors of the flowers and/or bracts.
Zone : Gives the minimum USDA hardiness zone of the plant.
Light : Gives the sun/shade info.
This database contains detailed botanical descriptions of Costus species, including the sheaths, ligules, petioles, leaves, bracts, bracteoles, calyx, corolla, labellum and stamen. As with the Ginger Database, the data is from my main database and will be updated from time to time with additions and corrections.
