I took these photos at the San Rafael indigenous community along the Amazon River a short distance northeast of Iquitos, Peru at about 100 meters. It was part of the Heliconia Society group excursion and there was not much time to linger and study. I have since concluded that this is probably Dimerocostus strobilaceus subsp. appendiculatus.
