NOTES AND DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:Maas says the specimens he describes here have very peculiar deformed looking bracts and may represent a new species. He was unable to examine flower structure and did not name this. NOTE: Per Manual des Plantas de Costa Rica this is the plant later described and named by Maas as Costus curvibracteatus.
NATURAL DISTRIBUTION:Panama in cloud forest, thick underbrush along river, 600-2000 m
