NOTES AND DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:KOECHLIN KEY: Plants with upright stems, with many leaves arranged along the stem, or grouped toward the top. Radical inflorescence. Plants spindly or lanky, leaves distributed along stem, diversely pubescent, inflorescence is subsessile with few flowers. Ligule truncate, up to 5 mm long. Leaves (both sides), petioles and sheaths with brown hairs, ligule is short, labellum margin "fimbres", tinted pink and yellow.

Koechlin reported some plants with single leafed stems, larger leaves (20 X 15 cm) with cordate base and glabrous except the costa.
