Costus albus

BOTANICAL NAME: Costus albus
PRIMARY SOURCE USED FOR DESCRIPTION:Koechlin - Flore du Gabon, Flora du Cameroun, 1965
NOTES AND DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:KOECHLIN KEY: Plants with upright stems, with many leaves arranged along the stem, or grouped toward the top. Radical inflorescence. Leafy stem is over 1 meter high sometimes with many flowers, plants are glabrous. Flowers white, more or less marked with pink or yellow. ONE flower per bract, labellum is white, marked with yellow. Illustrated on page 69.

Similar to Costus maculatus, but has only one flower per bract instead of two, and labellum is marked with yellow in throat instead of pink. (Some C. maculatus is also marked pink.)

I believe this is a syn. for Costus dubius.
NATURAL DISTRIBUTION:Found in all parts of western and central Africa as far as Uganda.
HEIGHT:0 to 2 meters
