NOTES AND DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:This species is closest to C. pulverulentus, but has a separate flowering stem, much larger leaves, glabrous costa and much larger flowers. Inflorescense and individual flowers on this species are larger than any other Costus described by Maas.
NATURAL DISTRIBUTION:Ecuador, Amozonian tropical-subtropical rainforest, sea level to 800 m
HEIGHT:1 to 4 meters
