NOTES AND DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:This species readilly recognized by its long, unequally 2-lobed ligule and the ferrugineous-velutinous indument on most parts of the plant.

Manual de Plantas de Costa Rica says this species can be found between 700 and up to 2100 meters in altitude, mountains Cord. Guanacaste, Tilarán, and Central; in Talamanca, Tablazo, Cerros de Escazú, Cerro Turrubares - north and west of San Jose.
NATURAL DISTRIBUTION: In Costa Rica, moist cloud forests in shade, along streams, between 1300 and 1800 meters.
