NOTES AND DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:KOECHLIN KEY: Plants with upright stems, with many leaves arranged along the stem, or grouped toward the top. Radical or terminal inflorescence. Plants spindly or lanky, leaves distributed along stem, diversely pubescent, inflorescence is subsessile with few flowers. Ligule is membranous, bilobed, several cm long, leaves are green, pubescent on both sides. Plant is up to 1.5 meters high. Flowers at labellum margins frayed and tinted pink. Appendage on lower bracts, one flower per bract. (NOTE: keyed both ways with terminal or basal inflorescence. Handwritten notation on my copy of Koechlin has terminal flowering plant written in as C. mosaicus. This might be the same plant I have listed in my database as Costus mosaicus.)
