NOTES AND DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:Maas named and described this species in Monograph No. 8. He indicates the hairiness and appendaged lower bracts are much like C. villosissimus, but upper bracts are not appendaged. Flowers are similar to C. laevis. Modified description in Monograph No. 18 and photograph on page 182. He also describes an aberrant form with longer ligule and plicate leaves found in Santa Fe Region, Veraguas, Panama.
NATURAL DISTRIBUTION:moist rain forests from sea level to 1000 meters, Panama, Colombia & Venezuela. Costa rica, between San Isidro de El General and Domincal n side of Costeña range.
HEIGHT:1 to 4 meters
