DESCRIPTION:
This Fairchild accession was received from a local nursery and I believe it to be the collection that is in general cultivation, often confused for the Costus 'El Whiskey', but with a somewhat different form and with dense hairs throughout. I believe this is the same collection that was accessioned at the Smithsonian as USBRG 1994-675, which they received via John Kress as a cultivated plant from the Tingo Maria Botanical Garden in Peru. My own collection of this Smithsonian plant has died so I was happy to replace it with this one from Fairchild Gardens.
