DESCRIPTION:
This accession grows to about 1 meter tall with very thin sheath usually tightly spiraling form. Sheath, ligules, petioles and leaves all glabrous except for single line of hairs on upper midrib. Sheath 7 mm in diameter at 10 cm above base. Ligule 8 mm long (sometimes seen much longer and deeply lobed), petiole 7 mm long. Leaves very long acuminate. Inflorescence terminal on a leafy stem (but seen on a few plants in the field as basal). Bracts red, non-appendaged with conspicuous yellow nectar callus. Flowers red, tubular, 4 cm long with yellow apex to stamen slightly protruding from tube, margin entire, identical in form to other Costus scaber flowers I have seen.
