DETERMINATION: | By Dave Skinner, matched Maas' description very well and easilly recognized from thin stems, narrow foliage. |
GENERAL: | Thin, bamboo-like stems, narrow leaves, red basal inflo with yellow flowers. |

SHEATH: | Brown and tan striped at base, green where leaves begin, glabrous, thin and straight, 1.5 cm at base, to about 2 meters tall but often seen much shorter. |
LIGULE: | Green, glabrous, less than 1 mm and actually ending BELOW the leaf petiole on the back side. |
PETIOLE: | Green, glabrous, 3 mm long. |
LEAVES: | Green, glabrous, very long and thin - 30 cm long by 3 cm wide. |
INFLORESCENCE: | Basal leafless shoot, inflo including flower from apex totaled almost 20 cm long and about 3 cm wide. |
BRACTS: | Red, glabrous, narrow yellow callus 1 cm long, bracts 4.8 cm long by 2 cm wide. |
