SOURCE:
Jackie Petrov - she got the plant from her aunt in Brazil, the origin is unknown.

DETERMINATION:
Photos were reviewed by Paul Maas, determined to be either a hybrid or an undescribed new species. Cannot determine without knowing the location of origin or locating identical plant in the wild. I have named this plant 'Tropicais' for identification purposes.

GENERAL:
Plant is tall, green, non-descript except when in flower, then bracts look much like C. spiralis but the flowers are more like C. arabicus, with a stronger flush of pink and yellow.

RHIZOME :


SHEATH:
To 2 meters, green, glabrpis. 0.8 cm iin diameter.

LIGULE:
Green, glabrous, truncate, very short and variable from 0.4 mm to 8.0 mm in length.

PETIOLE:
Green, glabrous, 6-8 mm long by 3-4 mm wide.

LEAVES:
Green, glabrous both sides, elliptical, with base cordate to rounded, shortly acuminate with 1 mm acumen, 11-19 cm long by 4-8.5 cm wide.

INFLORESCENCE:
Terminal on a leafy stem, conical, 5 cm long by 2.5 cm in diameter.

BRACTS:
Reddish green, callus 8 mm green, glabrous, margins entire, apex rounded, 3.3-3.5 cm long by 3.2 cm wide.

APPENDAGE:
NONE

BRACTEOLE:
Red, glabrous, margins entire, 2.5 cm long by .5 cm wide.

CALYX:
Red, glabrous, margins entire, 1.5-1.6 cm long by 0.7-0.8 cm wide.

COROLLA:
Pinkish, glabrous, 5 cm long by 1.5 cm wide.

LABELLUM:
Pink tinged with yellow throat, glabrous, 4.5-5.0 cm long by 5 cm wide when spread.

STAMEN:
Yellow at base, white at apex with pinkish center, 3.5 cm long by 1.2 cm wide.
