This is the Costus I photographed at Waimea as #76S303. Note that it has pure white corolla lobes and the labellum wings are white at the margin. Seed collected by Plowman and Kennedy in Peru, Prov. Tarma, Dept. Junin, Puente Perene above Rio Perene at elevation of 715 m. Det'd by Ken Nagata at Lyon Arb. in 1984 to be Costus claviger.
Below is another Costus I photographed at Waimea as #74P389. Rec'd from PTBG, Kauai, their #72S734, they rec'd from Robert Wilson #65-346, original collection in Peru, prob. Tingo Maria area. J. Mood said this is prob. C. acreanus or C. guanaiensis.
Below is the one I photographed at Lyon Arboretum. Note that it has the same pure white corolla lobes and white margin to the labellum wings. I think this is the one on the PDF file (copy below) that is Lyon #80.0705, and is the same as Waimea #76S303.
Finally, I think there is just a misplaced tag here. This is the tag at NTBG in front of a Costus aff. spiralis. The accession data for this NTBG# indicates this came from Waimea #76S303, but the plant (left side) looks to be identical to Waimea #75S151 (right side), which was another Plowman collection from Peru, not identified in Waimea records. It looks to me like Costus spiralis.
