Third Symposium on Zingiberaceae

START PEOPLE PLANTS PRESENTATIONS POSTERS PROJECT

Zingiberaceae Image Project

As announced during the 3rd World Symposium on Zingiberaceae, a project has been initiated to compile images of plants in the family Zingiberaceae. You are invited to submit images to be placed on a web site where they can be viewed by interested persons from around the world. Each web page will contain a copyright notice, and you may also overlay a copyright notice of your own on the image file itself using some type of image editing software.

Images submitted must be in JPEG format, with a file size no larger than 200 kilobytes. The file names will be modified when they are loaded to the web page to reflect my naming system. The JPEG files will also be amended with an internal comment section , which can be read with appropriate software, and will contain the following information:

  • Taxon: (Give the genus, species and infraspecific name, if any. If species determination is uncertain, either use the specific epiphet ".sp" or include the term ".aff" to indicate uncertainty. )
  • Submitted By: (Give your name and email address)
  • Photo Date: (Give the date the photo was taken if known. Dates will be displayed in day-month-year format.)
  • Photo Location: (Give the location where the photo was taken, if known)
  • Comments: (Explain, up to 255 characters, how the plant was identified, what this image portrays, or any other comments you deem appropriate to this image.)

To submit an image to the Zingiberaceae Image Project, send the image as an email attachment to Dave Skinner and be sure to include the information listed above. If you have difficulty or need assistance in changing the file size, I will try to help you.

The images will be stored on a web server, at gingersrus.com, and will be fully searchable on the All About Gingers website, along with the other images. Under the thumbnail image the information about the image will be shown, and the submitter name will have a direct hyperlink to enable the visitor to send an email directly to the submitter of that image. The identification of the plants photographed will be the responsibility of the submitter, and will not be verified before they are posted to the web site. Corrections of identification should be sent to the submitter, and will be changed only when the submitter requests the correction.

If you have any questions about this project, please contact me at skinnerd@nettally.com.
