Floral Vascular System in Zingiberales and its Systematic Implications - Jing-Ping Liao (Speaker), Yuan-Jiang Tang, Zhong-Yu Xie, Qi-Gen Wu and W. John Kress
The morphology of the floral vascular systems of plants from different families in Zingiberales were studied and compared. The direction and lengths of the inner and outer capillary bundles varied between families, ending in inner stamens or outer stamens or styles or extending into sepals and labellums. Results support the theory that Musaceae and Zingiberaceae are sister families within Zingiberales, and indicates that Heliconaceae may be the basal family.
