Dr. Kress gives presentation on the New Classification of Zingiberaceae
At the Third Symposium on Zingiberaceae, Dr. W. John Kress proposed a new classification of Zingiberacea based on recent research, including molecular phylogenetic analyses and morphological features. He has proposed 4 Subfamilies and 6 Tribes as shown in the table below. Closely related genera are grouped together here, roughly as they appeared on the cladistic chart. Genera not sampled in the molecular phylogenetic analysis are noted with an asterick.
