Thumbnail Sheet for Dimerocostus, Monocostus and Paracostus

Dimerocostus is a neotropical genus with five species (as proposed for publication in 2021) distributed from Costa Rica to Bolivia. There are two basic forms of the flowers - a "hooded" form where the central corolla lobe extends out over the labellum making a hood, and the wide labellum form that has a broad and flat labellum. It is difficult to distinguish the yellow-flowering plants from a just a photo of the inflorescence, so it is best to click on the species name to understand how that species is distinguished from the others.

Monocostus is another neotropical genus with only one species. M. uniflorus is widely cultivated but is rare in the wild, endemic to the region around Tarapoto in northern Peru.

Paracostus is mostly found on the island of Borneo, but one species is in Africa. I do not have photos of all of the species, so I have substituted a dummy thumbnail.
