Costus villosissimus
Costus villosissimus is a widespread species from Nicaragua to tropical parts of western South America, most common in Panama and parts of Costa Rica. In the Osa Conservation Area, it has only been documented on the Isle de CaƱo, but possibly can be found on the mainland in areas with well drained soil and a more distinct dry season.
It is easily recognized by its long, stiff (villose) hairs for which it received its specific epithet. The plant grows to over 2 meters tall and produces yellow spreading flowers from green, foliaceous appendaged bracts.
