PHOTOS:(If photos are available, you can click on the link to open in a new window.) SYNONYMS: BOTANICAL NOTES: This was described by Loesener from a collection in 1911 by Ernst Ule along the Rio Acre border between Peru and Brazil. Paul Maas places C. cylindricus as a syn. of C. scaber and C. spiralis but uses the specimen collected by Ule as the type for his Costus acreanus which is an entirely different looking plant. I believe the plant described by Loesener is the same species that has been proposed by Maas as a sp. nov. Costus bolivianus. Further research is pending.
