BOTANICAL NOTES:
There is another form of Costus pulverulentus that is short, usually less than one meter tall, has its leaves congested toward the top of the plant, and has bract colors either pink, green or nearly white. This form produces flowers much like the Central America form with the corolla lobes folded out sharply and with a stamen far exceeding the labellum thus fully exposing the thecae. This form is found in parts of Panama and Colombia. The cultivar Costus 'Pink Lips' is of this form. I have also seen other color bracts in botanical gardens in Colombia with an origin in the Chocó. In 2014 I went to Bahia Solano on the Pacific coast of Colombia and found plants in this form with green bracts.
