SYNONYMS: BOTANICAL NOTES: This is the commonly cultivated form of Costus scaber that has been distributed by Stokes Tropicals and others as the "Indian Head Ginger". It has often been incorrectly classified as the species Costus spicatus. The origin of this cultivated form is unknown but it appears to be similar to the form I have seen along the Rio Napo in the Amazon Basin. It has larger flowers than some of the other forms I have seen.
