PLANT FAMILY: Costaceae BOTANICAL NAME: Costus sp. R3300-Los Mogos FORMAL SCIENTIFIC NAME: STATUS : CONTINENT: Neotropical SYNONYMS: BOTANICAL NOTES: Superficially similar to Costus scaber, but flower extends upright from the bracts and does not have the typical 60 degree angle of Costus scaber. It looks more like Costus spiralis than C. scaber yet this is far outside the geographic range for Costus spiralis. Not known whether this was introduced or possibly a natural hybrid. The plant was found in a newly developed arboretum in the Golfo Dulce Reserve. A thumbnail page showing photos of this plant can be found at http://www.gingersrus.com/images/R3300. |
