ACCESSION NOTES:
R3116 is from seeds collected at the San Rafael Indian Village, a few km downstream from Iquitos on the Amazon River.

R3123 is from seeds collected at Santa Cruz near the Rio Mazon and appears identical. The two have been given a cultivar name of 'Emerald Crinkles'. They have dense hairs on both sides of the leaves and therfore are believed to be examples of var. guanaiensis. R3123 has been vouchered at the UC Berkeley, Jepsen Herbarium, UC2045843.

GINGERSRUS CATALOG LISTING:
I collected this plant in Peru in two places, both not far from Iquitos, along the Amazon River and also near the Rio Mazon. It is a very desirable plant as it remains fairly compact, less than 5 feet tall and produces showy C. guanaiensis type flowers with pretty "crinkly" bract appendages forming a pleasing rosette. The foliage has thick soft hairs and the leaves are broad and closely spaced making it a good foliage plant. This plant will be ideal for the greenhouse or as a specimen plant in a tropical garden.
