BOTANICAL NOTES:
Collected, named and introduced by Dave Skinner, found in Ecuador near the town of Lita. Plant generally fits description of C. laevis but with cherry red bracts and matching red flowers with a large open labellum. Plant grows to about 3 meters tall, vegetative parts all glabrous, ligule and petiole 15 mm long. Bracts are deep red with distinct nectar callus, corolla and stamen are red. Labellum is broad and spreading cherry red with a yellow throat.

Lita area, Esmeraldas Province, Ecuador, Latitude 0.833, Longitude -78.5, at 1000 meters elevation.

GINGERSRUS CATALOG LISTING:
This plant comes closest to Costus laevis, but it is a particularly showy form of that species with its cherry red bracts and nearly solid cherry red flowers. They contrast nicely with the grey waxy leaves.
