The species Cheilocostus speciosus is widely distributed from India, southern China, Australia and all parts in between. I received this Cheilocostus speciosus form from someone and misunderstood that it came from Australia and might be the form sometimes known as C. potierae. Since then I have found out it really came from Thailand. Whatever the identity, is is certainly very different from the form commonly found in cultivation. It grows to as much as 8 feet tall in my greenhouse and flowers profusely but with flowers more tubular in shape than the common form. The stems branch a lot but are much straighter than the common form. It seems to be deciduous and therefore somewhat cold hardy but has not been tested outdoors yet.
