This is a cultivar name I have given to the Mark Collins collection as described below. Additional information on the species Cheilocostus globosus can be found at PID3432. The cultivar description follows: C. globosus form with yellow-orange basal flowers. Plant is glabrous except for undersides of leaves which are velutinous. Ligules are long (up to 4 cm.) and deeply lobed, becoming papery with age. Bracts, bracteoles and calyx are red and densely puberulous.

GINGERSRUS CATALOG LISTING:
Cheilocostus 'OrangeSherbet' flower This is another form of Cheilocostus globosus, from the Mark Collins collection. To my knowledge, Mark did not have a cultivar name for this plant, but I am naming it 'Orange Sherbet' to reflect the bright orange labellums. It grows to about 6 feet tall with many branching stems giving it a bushy appearance. The flowers are basal, arising from the rhizomes, but they are bright and colorful enough to show up well on the plant. This plant is probably not hardy in areas where the temperatures get down to freezing, but it is easy to grow in pots and can be overwintered in a greenhouse or sun porch.
