Stems, ligules, and leaves glabrous except for a single line of hairs along the upper midrib as is typical of Costus scaber. Inflorescence forming a cone of red-orange, non-appendaged bracts, with light green nectar callus. Flowers abaxially oriented, orange at the base turning yellow at the apex. Stamen just slightly exceeding the labellum as in C. scaber.
