Listed on the International Plant Names Index at - author listed as Woodson In his 1972 monograph, Paul Maas puts this variety into synonymy with var. lima.

Specimen at NYBG Herbarium - Costus lima K. Schum. var. wedeliana Woodson (Isotype) Location: Panama. Bocas del Toro. Río Cricamola, between Finca St. Louis and Konkintoe. Alt. 10 - 50 m. Collector: R. E. Woodson, Jr. 1926 with P. H. Allen & R. J. Seibert 12 Aug 1938-16 Aug 1938 Description: Canes 2-3 m; bracts pink or flesh color; calyx pink; corolla yellowish pink; tip of staminode orange.
