This is listed by Paul Maas as an insufficiently known species. Holotype:- specimen in Berlin was destroyed, was collected in 1901 by E. Ule in Fortaleza, lower Rio Jurua, Acre, Brazil. No description in Maas monograph. In 2019 I was in the region of this Ule expedition and looked for something that might be this species but I did not find it. I was unable to determine which place named "Fortaleza" this might be referring to as there are several in Brazil. There are notes on the specimen photograph where someone compared it against Costus juruanus noting a difference in the shape and length of the ligules.
