BOTANICAL NOTES:
This genus was first described and named as Monocostus by Schumann in Engl., Pflanzenr. 20[IV.46]:427 (1904). The type species is the ONLY species in the genus - Monocostus uniflorus. It has a bilocular ovary and a single flower produced at the leaf axils.
