GINGERSRUS CATALOG LISTING:
Costus lucanusianum flowers This is a tall African Costus that produces two flowers per bract. It is sometimes found in a yellow flowering form, but this is the more common white flowering form. This Costus grows quite tall, reaching a full 12 feet tall and bumping its head on my greenhouse roof. This is definately a "collector" plant, not the most exciting Costus in the jungle, but it does have its unique characters (like the ciliate ring around the ligule). Don't ask! Otherwise, it is similar looking to another African Costus, C. afer.

I have not tested this one outdoors, but the yellow flowering form seems to be marginally hardy here. My guess is this is zone 9B hardy, possibly zone 9A. I grow it in part sun (3-4 hours direct) in the usual moist but well drained, fertile, organic soil.
